Dog Days of Summer

I am not a fan of August.  Heat and humidity are high.  I am ready for fall and winter, sweaters, boots, crisp air, and snow.  For whatever reason, this time of year is referred to as the "dog days of summer."  Cutely enough, the shelter I adopted Faolan from has a fundraiser each year with the same name, which I will be volunteering at next weekend.

Given that it is hot and humid out, I am wishing for some snow.  It could arrive in as early 2.5 months here, and I would welcome it.  Because I am craving some cold weather, I am sharing some snow shots of my dogs.

How are you handling the dog days of summer?  Are you looking forward to winter like we are?

  1. We are all hot house summer flowers. We leave our snow in the mountains and seldom visit it. Different strokes...

  4. WHERE do you get snow in October? WHERE? Please tell me, I cannot wait. Besides the heat and humidity it's the bugs. The DAMN bugs. They fly at me, land on me, bite me. And I don't care how little they are, when they buzz past my ear, it gives me a start. I'm with you, bring on the snow!

  5. I hate the summer! Okay... hate's a strong word, but it's by-far my least fave season. I love the fall - but even the fall here is still hot (in So Cal) so we won't be getting "cold" temps here until Nov. I really want it to be boots and sweaters weather! Thank you for sharing snow pics. I feel cooler just looking at them.

(And of course... "cold" is relative - our cold temps are like low 60s. And no snow. After living in So Cal so long, I have a very limited window of temps that I like - 60 - 79 is my window!)

  8. My Siberian Husky named PoohBear loves the snow and with Spring in the offing, I guess he will have to say goodbye to his favorite snowy mantle. Just recently, me and my pooch went to Canada since my sister lives there. Needless to say, I prepared with his wardrobe needs including dog booties. I've read that our dog's paws take quite a beating whenever we walk them in hot pavements or freezing snow. I've seen how my dog's paws get cracked with this abuse so this time, I'm letting him wear booties. This site provided a lengthy and informative guide to getting those booties.
