Halloween Costumes for Dogs-What I Would Dress my Hooligans as

I have only ever dressed up one of my dogs, on one occasion.  We took Neeko to a dog park for a time when she was a puppy/young dog, and they had a Halloween Party there.  She was about 8.5 months old, and we decided to dress her us as Little Red Riding Hood, for the irony.  We actually used a little girl's costume, as she was still growing at the time and could fit in it.

We took the cape off, so as not to be a safety hazard.

There was a costume contest, voted on by all in attendance.  Neeko won!!  We received a gift card to a local pet supplies store.

I know some are opposed to dressing a dog up, but if the dog isn't bothered by the costume, or potentially put in harm's way, I personally see no problem with it.

If I were to dress Neeko up this year, I would almost certainly dress her as princess, because that is what she is.  She knows it, too.  Something like this-

Bruce is a tougher selection.  He has so many personality quirks, not that that's a bad thing.  Sometimes I think he has a split personality, so this costume might be perfect for him.

Sweet, silly Faolan.  He makes me laugh daily, so I would play on that and dress him as a jester.

Does anyone plan on dressing their dogs up for Halloween? If so, what are they dressing up as?

  1. I'm afraid there's no dressing up going on at our house. Our pups plain don't like it. And it scares Shyla, so no.

It is really fun to think of what would suit them best. R might be SuperDog, and Shyla might be a butterfly!

  2. I love dressing up my pets :) That feather costume is kind of cool looking. I'm sure Shiner wouldn't go for the head dress very long though.

  3. Those are awesome! I plan on dressing up Nola for Halloween. In fact, she's been dressed up for all the Halloweens I've had her. First she was a unicorn, then a devil, and now she's a little German girl.

  4. Little Red Riding Neeko was adorable. Beamer doesn't fit in most costumes found at pet stores, so I had to make his this year. It's a little.... poorly made, but I'm no artist.

  6. We've already undressed a ball! I doubt dressing them wouldn't make a difference.

  7. Love your costume Neeko, you definitely deserved to win!

Sookie will be dressed up as a devil, that is if the costume arrives before Halloween (I ordered it on the PetSmart website)!

  8. Those are some precious costumes!! I'm the same way: I know some people are super against dogs in costumes, but if they don't mind... why not?? I always tell my guys it's payment for all the things I do for them. :) I typically dress Emmett up to answer the door for trick-or-treaters because it makes him look less scary to the kiddos. And he LOVES being in costume because he gets SO much attention!

  9. Thank you for taking some time to write this post. Finding the right companion for your situation is critical if you are searching for a dog. This is true if the dog is a pet, or if the dog has a job, like protecting you or your family. It is important to do your research on breed characteristics, and to learn as much as possible about a dog’s personality prior to bringing it home. See more http://dogsaholic.com/breeds/info/personal-protection-dogs.html

  12. He-he! This is cute. I love dogs and I make sure I design a Halloween costume for my own. These are some really cute pictures and costume ideas. I have even finalized one of the biggest Chicago event venues for the Halloweens party and I am going to invite everybody I know along with their pets. It is going to be so much fun.
