I do these posts for a few reasons. I have seen a few other bloggers do them, and it is a good way for me to keep track and be accountable for dog related expenses. Also, it is a fairly accurate example of the costs associated with caring for three large dogs. Some argue that raw is expensive, but in my opinion and experience, it is no more expensive than feeding a good quality kibble.
November 2013 Expenses
Food-$249.98
Health-$45.98
Grooming-$10.00
Miscellaneous-$45.98
Total-$336.34
Food was two (one at the beginning of the month, and one at the end) orders from Raw Paws, and bags of chicken leg quarters.
Health was Bruce's prescription and a bottle of Hyaluronic Acid
Grooming was a nail trim for Neeko.
Miscellaneous was a sheep costume I purchased from Target online, and a mini photo shoot for Faolan at the Pet Expo.
Food was my main expense in November, but it included two orders, one of which was technically for December. Even including two orders, it was only slightly above my monthly dog food budget. The Hyaluronic acid supplement for Neeko really is helping her joints, and absolutely worth the expense. The mini photo shoot was fun, and I got a couple of decent pictures of Faolan out of it, which I will eventually post.
December 2013 Expenses
Food-$161.63
Health-$135.42
Treats-$12.50
Total-$309.55
Food was one Raw Paws order, which was technically for January, some bags of chicken leg quarters, and some pork roasts that were on sale at Marsh.
Health was bottles of Hyaluronic Acid
Treats was the Happy Dog Box.
Health was a bit more expensive than a normal month without a vet visit, due to the purchase of Trifexis and salmon oil. The salmon oil will last at least two or three months, possibly longer because I will be feeding quite a bit of venison in the near future.
I'd say these past two months were average, if not a bit above average in regards to expenditures.
Our expenses still mainly revolve around medical expenses. But since I've taken better care of Buchi, the expenses are a lot more manageable.
