February 2015 Expenses

It's the end of the month., and I have calculated my expenses for the previous month. Some months the numbers are low, others are a bit much.  Previous posts about expenses can give one an idea about how much it costs to care for three large dogs in the Midwest.

I do these posts for a few reasons.  I have seen a few other bloggers do them, and it is a good way for me to keep track and be accountable for dog related expenses.  Also, it is a fairly accurate example of the costs associated with caring for three large dogs.  Some argue that raw is expensive, but in my opinion and experience, it is no more expensive than feeding a good quality kibble

February 2015 Expenses

Food-$344.84
Health-$302.90
Treats/Toys-$40.00

Total-$705.74

Ouch.  Last month was relatively inexpensive, so this more than makes up for it.  Ouch...again.

Food was a large order from My Pet Carnivore, and some I and Love and You dehydrated raw.  From MPC we got beef tripe, lamb tripe, lamb hearts, beef kidney and liver, and a blend of bison tripe, lung and gullet.

Health expenses were the cost of Bruce's annual wellness visit with blood work, his prescription, and a heartworm test for Neeko.

Treats/toys was the PetBox.  I swear I am going to cancel it eventually.

Fortunately, most months are not remotely this expensive, and I count on having months like this once in a while.

  2. That looks closer to my bill. Our budget is down to $500 a month on average.

  5. I really need to do this. I track all expenses, so it would just be a matter of pulling out the proper numbers. Do you do a year end re-cap, like a spreadsheet with each month on it? That would be interesting too.
Though sometimes I think I might be happier not really knowing....LOL

  7. I've been trying to do the raw inexpensively but finding it hard. Currently I am spending about $85 per week to feed two large dogs. But I am buying mixes because I just don't want the hassle of figuring out the percentages. LOL
