Grizzly Wild Pollock Oil

This summer, my dogs seem to be shedding an awful lot.  More than normal, and much more than last summer.  They do not shed hardly at all in the winter.

Last summer, I was giving them all Grizzly Wild Salmon Oil daily, but stopped giving it in the fall.  It became increasingly difficult to find, and the price was going up.

I began giving them human, soy-free fish oil gelcaps that I purchased from the retail pharmacy at my work, and continued them until recently.  I was giving each dog 4 gelcaps daily, which they eagerly took as a treat.  This equated to 1200 mg of EPA + DHA per dog.  Maintenance dose of EPA + DHA is 100 mg per 10 lbs of body weight, so my dogs were all getting a bit extra.  Therapeutic dosage is suggested as three times that amount.

I choose to supplement my dogs with fish oil for a variety of reasons.  It is good for their skin and coat, might be good for their hearts, and fish oil is a natural anti-inflammatory, so it is good for joints and to help with other inflammatory processes.

Given all the shedding, I began trying to pin down causes.  I realized that perhaps it was the difference in fish oil, as their coats last summer were very nice, with minimal shedding.

To PSP I went, in hopes of finding the salmon oil. Instead, I found Grizzly Wild Pollock Oil.

I had never seen, nor heard of it before.  I purchased a 16 oz bottle for about $16, I believe.  The dosing/pumps is the same that I remember the Salmon Oil being.

Unfortunately, Grizzly does not provide the amount of EPA + DHA on the label, just pump amounts.

My crew LOVES the taste of this stuff.  It is orange in color, and definitely smells "fishy."  The label states to store in a cool, dry place, so I choose to keep it in the dog refrigerator.

I knew I needed to find a source of larger, affordable bottles.  I really lucked out.  I found the Grizzly Pollock Oil Supplement for Dogs, 64-Ounce bottle on Amazon for $35.99, with free shipping.

Our 64 ounce bottle arrived today.

In a cute little jug, with a convenient pump.

The "dosing" is the same.  I give Faolan three pumps daily, and Neeko and Bruce each get four pumps daily.

I do feel that it has reduced their shedding in the short amount of time we have been using it.  Not only that, but the dogs love the taste of it.

Do you supplement with fish oil?  If so, what do you use?

Disclaimer-I purchased this product of my own accord, and was not asked to review it.  All opinions are strictly my own.

  1. I'll have to look into that! I give Nola fish oil. I use Nordic Naturals gel capsules. It's a 90 pill bottle, and since Nola only gets one every other day (does is 30lbs and under 1 capsule a day. She's 11lbs, so I give it every other day), it should last a while!

  2. Mom gives us fish oil capsules, but Phantom won't touch it. She is going to check our this pollock oil. We all have been shedding a lot more too. Crazy weather patterns.

  3. I usually buy salmon oil from Costco.com, $37 for 2-32 oz bottles with free shipping. I can get it little cheaper at work now with wholesale pricing.

  4. I never saw this before local pet store sells the grizzly salmon oil.

I might have to try the pollock dogs love fish.. I'd probably rotate salmon one day and pollock the other.

    Thanks for posting this. :)
