It is the first of the month, and time for my monthly expenses post.
I do these posts for a few reasons. I have seen a few other bloggers do
them, and it is a good way for me to keep track and be accountable for
dog related expenses. Also, it is a fairly accurate example of the
costs associated with caring for three large dogs. Some argue that raw
is expensive, but in my opinion and experience, it is no more expensive
than feeding a good quality kibble.
January 2014 Expenses
Food-$147.30
Health-$8.00
Treats-$56.10
Total-$211.40
Food was a My Pet Carnivore order, a couple of bags of chicken leg quarters, and payment for my February coOp order, which I will pick up in a couple of weeks.
Health was Bruce's prescription.
Treats included some Doggie Wishbones I purchased at our local Pet Supplies Plus, an order of buffalo bully sticks from Petflow, and payment for our January Happy Dog Box, which I still have not received...grrrr.
All in all, this was a pretty inexpensive month. I spent more on treats, and maybe slightly less on food and health than I normally do. There were no grooming, toy, gear or miscellaneous expenses this month.
You had a great month! We, by contrast, had an arthroscopic elbow surgery for R. Our expenses were very high!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I spent anything on Beamer this month. Err, that's a lie. I just spent $40 on him yesterday. But I can't remember spending money on him before that. Thank god for BarkBox :)
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea, but I'm almost afraid to sit down and look at what we spend! I do keep track of it in my bookkeeping software, but I don't usually look at the totals at the end of the month. This is good information for anyone thinking of getting a pet, or of adding another pet to their current group....it might help them get an idea of what it can cost. One thing I know for sure is that it always seems like I am buying something for the dogs! :)

That's about what mine is for two 110lb dogs. Sometimes its a little more, sometimes its a little less....the average is about $212.

ReplyDeleteHmmm ours would be about 100-150... including health stuff-- the perks of living in a country with cheaper labor... cheaper goods.
