I do these posts for a few reasons. I have seen a few other bloggers do them, and it is a good way for me to keep track and be accountable for dog related expenses. Also, it is a fairly accurate example of the costs associated with caring for three large dogs. Some argue that raw is expensive, but in my opinion and experience, it is no more expensive than feeding a good quality kibble.
April 2014 Expenses
Food-$14.00
Health-$87.16
Treats-$39.50
Gear-$37.47
Grooming-$5.35
Miscellaneous-$428.91
Total-$612.39
Bleh.
Food was very inexpensive this month, as I was gifted a large amount of pork from some farmer friends, and have not yet placed my May Raw Paws order.
Health expenses included Bruce's prescription, a bottle of Grizzly Pollock Oil, a bottle of liquid glucosaminefor Neeko, and a kelp supplement.
Treat expenses were the PetBox, some bully sticks, and a couple of treats I purchased at the outing with Faolan.
I did purchase some new gear this month. I bought a new treat pouch, so that we once again have two, because some dog (Neeko, cough, cough) chewed up one of them. I also purchased a new Lupine collar and leash for Bruce.
Bruce's new collar and matching leash. Les is quite the angler, so I couldn't resist it. |
Miscellaneous expenses were once again the bulk of my canine expenditures this month. $10.00 was a bag of Sweet PDZ. The rest of the miscellaneous expenses went towards buying fencing materials. Fortunately we had purchased the rolls of fencing in the fall, when we first moved in. This money was spent buying 4x4's, 2x4's, concrete, a gate, and T-posts. I still feel like we saved money by putting up the fencing ourselves, and the dogs are loving having the large (supervised) play area.
There are no vet visits scheduled in May (but there is one in June for Neeko, and one in July for Faolan), and I have no large projects planned for the dogs. Hopefully May is a much more reasonable month for us.
I simply refuse to think about my dog related expenses! :-0 Love that collar and leash! Stop by my blog today to pick up an award :-)
ReplyDeleteOne thing I don't spend much money on is treats. I just don't buy many treats. But, I do spend a fair amount on food.
ReplyDeleteAnd that's a Lupine leash which has a "guaranteed even if chewed" policy. Not that I've tested that out. Twice.
ReplyDeleteAnd they're quick about it, too.
I can't help it. I'm a puppy. It's what I do.
Yours sincerely,
Margaret Thatcher
Wow, you sometimes make me feel like a bad dog owner because I don't spend a fraction of that, ever :P
ReplyDeleteBeamer's first collar was the dapper dog Lupine collar. I loved it, but it's too small for him now at 3/4".
I think I spent well over $1,000 in April, but most of that was Pike's initial price. This month will be killer, since I have to pick up new food, grooming tools (the ones I picked are too big), some different toys, vet check, shots, microchip, and a nice leash and ID tag. And that's just Pike! Nola needs a new tag, new nail clippers, another Kong and more toothpaste. Oy.

Gosh ours was an expensive month as we had vets bills. Trying not to think about it. The pork was a god send. Have a fabulous Friday.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Molly
Interesting to learn others doggie expenses!
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing, I am curious what a normal month of food would cost had you not been given the pork?
