June 2014 Expenses

It's the first of the month, and that means it is time for me to hold myself transparent and accountable for my dog-related expenses.

I do these posts for a few reasons.  I have seen a few other bloggers do them, and it is a good way for me to keep track and be accountable for dog related expenses.  Also, it is a fairly accurate example of the costs associated with caring for three large dogs.  Some argue that raw is expensive, but in my opinion and experience, it is no more expensive than feeding a good quality kibble.

June 2014 Expenses

Food-$211.44
Health-$116.60
Treats-$39.00

Total-$367.04

Food was a bit of grocery store chicken, and a coOp order.

Most of our health expenses were from Neeko's wellness appointment, which included heartworm and tick-borne disease blood test.  $8.00 of it was Bruce's omnipresent prescription.

Treats was the cost of our June PetBox, which I neglected to review, because I did the pick your own this past month.

All in all, a good month.  I have had a string recently of being way under our food budget (300.00 per month) and I will be very happy to see that continue.

  2. I find it interesting to compare costs. If we had two more dogs, our food costs would be about the same as yours. Over the years, I've found the more I spend on food the less I spend on vet care.

  4. I don't even want to think of what I've spent this month. There was Nola's annual, which included flea/heartworm meds, heartworm test and bloodwork, Pike got a new bag of food, $25 on Nola's home cooked, plus stuff the Poodle puppy including deposit and crate and grooming stuff....oy. Probably well over $1,000. And Pike just had a vet appointment today...sigh.

  7. Usually I never comment on blogs but your article is so convincing that I never stop myself to say something about it. You’re doing a great job Man,Keep it up.
Such short little lives our pets have to spend with us, and they spend most of it waiting for us to come home each day. It is amazing how much love and laughter they bring into our lives and even how much closer we become with each other because of them.
