The Rest of the Story

Last week, I posted this photo of Faolan for Wordless Wednesday.

Here's the story behind it.

He was leashed, I just (poorly) edited it out.

The tree grows sideways, over the creek.

He jumped up there of his own will, and walked out onto it with my encouragement.

It was about a 10 foot drop down.

Getting back down proved a bit trickier for him.

I would never put my dogs in danger.  I am confident in his abilities, and I feel this both boosted his confidence, and was a way of him expressing his trust in me.  He is fun, and both fearful and fearless.

  1. He is so cute! <3 The girls climb trees, too! They like to go pretty high up but we are careful with the jumping down, too!

  3. I see many dogs who climb trees and climb very well. I, on the other paw, am all about keeping my paws on the ground! Great photo (and Ma says good editing job because she didn't even notice where the leash would be).

  5. That is great exercise for him too! He looks very light on his feet and I am sure you know just what his coordination level is. I'd be nervous if my dogs tried it, but that's because they've never really done anything like that.

  7. Those are a couple of great pictures. I am always impressed with dogs that have good balance and can climb. It is like a natural agility course.

  9. Kind of like agility! You encourage the dog to try new things while also being safe. I encourage Ace to climb on trees too, but he has never gone that high! He also plays on playground equipment.

  10. Great photo. I don't think Rita would ever climb a tree, although I do love to try to help her do things that boost her confidence. Lord knows she needs it boosted! (Except when it comes to guarding the house. She's no shrinking violet in that regard!!)
