Missed Opportunities

As usual, I worked yesterday. Mid morning, I checked my phone and saw that I had a missed call and voicemail. I checked the voicemail, and it was the director of the shelter we adopted Faolan from. He's a county government officer. He had been called out on a fresh road kill, and came across a still warm deer with its back legs broken. He loaded it in his truck, and was offering it to me. My mind was racing. I told him I'd get back to him and got to work figuring out if Les could get it picked up, and to see if I could find someone to do a quick processing job. Les isn't up to skinning and cutting up a deer.

Long story short, I wasn't able to find someone who would process it yesterday afternoon, despite Facebook, phone calls, and asking everyone I knew. I called and regretfully declined. He said he would still keep me in mind.

Yesterday evening, I get a message from a friend, saying her son-in-law would love to do it for me. D'oh!!

Also yesterday, I received an email from Rodney. As previously mentioned, he did not make his scheduled meat delivery to Indy last weekend because there was only three orders placed. He stated that he needed to go to Kokomo, which is about halfway between us, about 1.5 hours for each of, and was wanting to know if I was available to meet him.

Of course Wednesday was out because of my hours, and Thursday (tonight) is out, because I'm picking up my coOp order. I emailed him back, stating I could meet him Friday evening or Saturday. I don't expect to, as those are less than ideal times.

Oh well.

Breakfast on Wednesday, 1/16/13 was chicken breast.

Dinner was pork heart, beef kidney, Seameal meatball.

  1. I feel your pain. I once had a whole cow offered to me and someone called to let me know of a dying roadkill deer. What is a girl to do? I went for the cow but even then I only managed to acquire the back legs. Oh what could have been! better luck next time. At least you have eyes on the road for you!
