Owned

Last week, I wrote about how I love my job.  I love it for many reasons, one of which is most of my patients have pets.

Several weeks ago, I was seeing a sweet former patient, who owns two dogs.  One of these dogs is an adorable Yorkie, whom I will call B.

Isn't he adorable?
B is a cute, cuddly, affectionate little guy.  He would often sit on my lab while I was with my patient, and do a happy dance when I arrived.

I have dogs, many of my patients have dogs.  So I often go into homes carrying the scent of several dogs on my person.  This particular day, I took my heavy coat off, and set it on the arm of my patient's couch.  I went about with my visit, and was getting ready to leave.  That is when I noticed the small puddle on my heavy coat.  I said, "I think B peed on my coat..."  My patient was upset, but that wasn't my intent.  I found it funny.  We cleaned it up, no harm, no foul.

This little guy was apparently jealous of all the other dog scents on me and my coat.  So he did what many male dogs do...he marked his territory.  He claimed me.  He owned me.

  6. LOL - I love that you look to understand why a dog does something rather than freak out - shows that you know your stuff when it comes to dogs :)
