January Pawalla Box Review, Meals, and a Score

Friday, 1/11/13, was somewhat of an exciting day.

For breakfast, the mongrels had steak and eggs.  The steak was courtesy of my sister from the other day.

For dinner, they had bone-in pork rib roasts, and some Sojos.

I received an unfortunate email from my favorite farmer late Thursday night.  Apparently only three Indianapolis people placed orders with him this month, and he wouldn't be making the trip down.  I was devastated.  I went into work Friday morning, and was sitting in the lounge eating my oatmeal and chatting with my friend Kelly before our shifts started.  In walks another nurse, Elizabeth, carrying a box.  Her freezer had gotten unplugged, and she does not know how long it was unplugged.  Some of the meat had started to thaw.  She was bringing me meat!  She placed it in our lounge freezer.  It was all I could do not to go digging through it to see what was in there.  I managed to make it through my day.  She brought some chicken breasts, cube steaks, and hamburger, and says she has even more for me!

Upon arriving home, I discovered I had received my first Pawalla Box.  I was very excited, and couldn't wait to dig in to it.

The Goods

Two cans Lotus brand dog food.  Approximate retail value (based on the cost of ordering a 12 can case) of $3.29 each.  Good ingredients.  Not something I've seen locally available for purchase.  I will probably try these.

One roll of poop bags.  Guesstimate on retail value of $0.99.  While I currently have plenty of these, I guess it is something nearly every dog owner will always need.

Wagatha's Organic Dog Biscuits.  Approximate retail value $4.99.  These have decent ingredients.  They smell amazing, so I tried a little bite of one myself.  They actually tasted decent, somewhat like a bland breakfast cereal.  They are a hit with Neeko and Bruce, but Faolan has spit them out each time I've offered him one.

Petchup.  Approximate retail value $7.99.  This is a topping made for dry food.  Supposedly good for coat, contains glucosamine, etc.  Seems gimmicky to me.  Not something I would ever purchase.  Ingredients are meh.  This product contains yeast, so I cannot give it to Bruce, as he is allergic.  The amount of glucosamine is minute, so I don't see how it could impact anything but a very small dog.  I did put a bit on Neeko and Faolan's dinner Friday night, and they both licked it off.  I may end up giving this away.

Charming Balloons squeaky dog toy.  This is quite small, and I ordered the large dog box. I am definitely giving this away.

Stella & Chewy's Carnivore Crunch.  Approximate retail value $15.69.  Freeze dried chicken and bone.  This is something I would purchase, particularly if it weren't so expensive.  I am very excited to have received this.  It is by far my favorite from the box.  Neeko, Bruce, and Faolan have all already received several of these treats, and they are a huge hit.
Overall, I have mixed emotions about the Pawalla box.  Maybe this was an off month.  I am still waiting to receive my BarkBox and Spoiled Rotten Dog boxes, but I am doubtful I will continue this particular subscription.

If anyone is interested in the Pawalla box, follow this LINK to get $10 off your first box.  If you don't like it, you can cancel at any time.

  1. Nice review. I didn't even know you could subscribe for such things! Sorry to hear you didn't get your order but at least your friend saved the day and got you some meat to tide you over!
