What's in a BarkBox? I used to reviews monthly of the BarkBoxes that my dogs received. (They get more mail than I do.) I stopped because I felt the quality had dropped, and I just wasn't excited about them. This month was the best BarkBox we have received in a while, so I decided it was worth posting about.

This month's theme is "A Lick in Wonderland" and the items seem to place on an Alice in Wonderland type theme.

February 2016 PetGiftBox Review and Coupon Code

Love is in the air.  At least it was in this month's PetGiftBox.  This month's theme was Valentine's Day, which is perfect, as my dogs were my fluffy Valentines.

Zippy Paws Emoji Plush Toy.  Approximate retail value $9.99.  This is probably my favorite emoji.  Maybe my second favorite.  Anyways, it's a cute plush toy with a squeaky.  Not durable enough for my particular dogs, but probably too cute to give to them anyways.

I woof you cookie.  Adorable cookie made by Bubba Rose biscuit company.  I'm sure it's tasty too.  Which lucky dog shall I give it to?

I Love My Dog Car Magnet. Approximate retail value $4.99.  Who doesn't?  Perfect for the Valentine's theme.

Isle of Dogs Smile Treats Approximate retail value $7.99.  Gluten-free treats, made in the USA, heart shaped.  These treats contain decent ingredients, and I am sure that Neeko and Faolan will enjoy them.  Due to them containing yeast, big boy Bruce won't be able to.  And I am sure he will throw a temper tantrum about it...

Zanies Berber Bone.  Approximate retail value $7.67.  Plush bone shaped toy with an embroidered heart.  Squeaker inside.  This is really cute, and really plush.  I will probably let Neeko play with it a bit, because it is of the texture and size of toys that she absolutely loves.

This month's box was adorable, and I love how perfectly everything fit with the theme.  I love marketing/packaging/cute stuff, and PetGiftBox gets me.  I probably get more excited about getting stuff for my dogs than I do myself, and a subscription box is an awesome way to try out new products.

January 2016 BarkBox Review

The Goods

Ducky Tenders.  Approximate retail value $8.13.  Made by Loving Pets and specially packaged for BarkBox.  These soft treats contain decent ingredients, and I am sure my dogs will love them!

Jax and Bones Peace Toy.  Approximate retail value $16.99.  Neeko LOVES Jax and Bones rope toys.  They are probably her favorite toys ever.  Seriously.  She has been through several of them.  I am thrilled to receive this.  The peace sign goes along perfectly with this month's theme.  Did I mention Neeko loves Jax and Bones toys?

American Hound Jerky Dog Treats. Unknown retail value.  Pork based, American made, jerky style treats.  These contain decent ingredients, and come in long, jerky-like strips that easily break into smaller pieces.  The dogs have already sampled them, and give them 12 paws up.

"Curly Chew" Dehydrated Lamb Ear.  Approximate retail value $1.00.  Single ingredient treat.  I cannot make up my mind whether or not I think these are similar to rawhide.  I have given them to my dogs in the past, and they were enjoyed, with no issues.  I guess the question is - which dog will get to enjoy this one?

Think!dog Rolling Stones Record Toy.  Unknown value. Cute toy with large squeaker.  While I am sure it won't last too long, it is fun and I know the dogs will enjoy it.

I am very impressed with this month's BarkBox.  The Jax and Bones toy makes it worth it to me.  Did I mention Neeko loves them?  Two packages of quality soft treats, of different proteins (duck and pork), two quality toys, and a chew.  Again, I am quite pleased with it this month.  To try BarkBox for yourself, and have a free box added to your plan, click HERE.

I know last month I said that BarkBox no longer appears to have themes with their boxes, but this month's box definitely has a Christmas feel.

October 2015 BarkBox

What's in a BarkBox?  We received the October BarkBox yesterday, so let us take a look!  To read reviews of previous and/or current BarkBoxes, click HERE.

I think this month's theme is Trick-or-Treat.  All product opinions are how I feel about a particular item in regards to my dogs.  What does not work for them could very well work wonderfully for another's dog.

The Goods

Butcher's Block Beef Knuckle Slice.  Approximate retail value $7.95.  I don't give my dogs roasted bones, because I feel they are not safe for my dogs.  Others may feel differently with their particular dogs, but I am a member of the "no cooked bones" camp, unless the bone completely crumbles easily.

No Grainers Jerky Chews. Approximate retail value $5.97.  These semi-soft treats are grain and gluten-free.  They are approximately 2" in length, but break into smaller pieces.  My dogs are willing to work for treats like this, so they will be put to good use.

Giggle Dynamite toy.  Unknown value.  A combo of rope and rubber, that makes a strange "giggling" noise when shaken or jostled.  My dogs will certainly enjoy the two different textures, and I will enjoy some games of tug with them.

Hyper Pet Doggie Tail.  Approximate retail value $12.99.  This toy moves on it's own.  A clever idea, but not particularly durable, for toy dissectors such as my dogs.  I will allow Neeko to interact with it, because I want to see her reaction.  I may make a video.  I also cannot wait to show it to my cats, to see what they think.  This would be ideal for smaller dogs who are gentler on toys than my mutts.

Wheezy Wolfy's Salmon Half Skin.  Unknown retail value.  A dehydrated salmon skin roll.  I know all three of my dogs would love this, but I have to choose the lucky one who will receive it...

This month's BarkBox is OK.  The treats will be put to use, and one dog will enjoy the salmon skin roll.  I am disappointed by the roasted bone, but that is just me.

October 2015 Pet Gift Box Coupon Code and Review

It's always a good day when I see the Pet Gift Box sitting on the porch, and yesterday was such a day.

This month's theme is Howloween, and all the items have a fun fall/Halloween feel to them.

The Goods

Grriggles Playful Pumpkin.  Approximate retail value $12.99.  Cute, corduroy pumpkin with a squeaker.  I am tempted to use this as a decoration rather than a dog toy.  It's that cute, and pretty good-sized.

 Zanies peek-a-boo's.  Approximate retail value $7.99.  Another cute, smallish dog toy.  This is soft soft rubber, with a squeaker.  When squeezed, it squeaks, and the witch's head pops out.  Goes perfectly with the theme.  This toy is very cute, but not durable enough for my rough dogs.  I will enjoy gifting this to someone this month.

Bark Bars Halloween Cookies.  Listed retail value $4.99.  Large cookies made with pumpkin and cinnamon, amongst other ingredients.  One is a pumpkin, the other is a ghost.  These are super cute and festive.  They do contain yeast, so Bruce (who loves big cookies) will not be able to have one, but Neeko and Faolan will certainly enjoy them.

Halloween Boo-Dana.  Listed retail value $5.99.  Adorable Halloween bandana.  I am taking Faolan to a Halloween party next weekend, and this will be perfect for him to wear.

Exclusively Dog Smoochers.  Approximate retail value $5.99.  Soft round treats that are wheat, corn, and soy-free!  The treats are decent-sized, but easily break into even smaller pieces.  I am stingy with treats, particularly when using them as training/bribery treats, so I always appreciate this.  Made in the USA, these treats contain pumpkin and yogurt.

The last three month's of the year are my favorite, due to the holidays and the festiveness that goes along with each of them.  This month's Pet Gift Box is definitely putting me in the mindset.  Cute toys, cookies, and a bandana that I cannot wait to see Faolan sporting!

September 2015 BarkBox Review

This month's theme is Bedtime Story.

The Goods

Starlight Bite Plush Toy.  Listed retail value $14.00.  Cute plush toy with squeakers.  It feels fairly durable as far as plush toys go.  Adorable, and fits well with the theme.  I *may* let Neeko play with this some.

Organicfuls Chamomile, Honey and Duck treats.  Listed retail value $8.00.  Whole, quality, mostly organic ingredients in these smallish biscuit treats.  Grain, GMO, and soy-free!  Bruce loves biscuit type treats more than Neeko and Faolan, but these have coconut listed as an ingredient, and he has demonstrated a sensitivity to coconut in the past.  While this seems to be an excellent product, I am on the fence about offering it to my dogs.

Chuckit Max Glow.  Approximate retail value $8.99.  What dog doesn't love chuckit balls?  This one fits in the large holder, and glows in the dark after being exposed to light.  I can't wait to try it out.

Butcher's Block Bully Chew.  Listed retail value $4.00.  We love bully sticks here.  However, we have received this product from this company in the past, and they do not last nearly as long as other bully sticks, even ones that are shorter than this.  I am still pleased to have received it.  

Grandpaws Lamb and Kale soft treats.  Listed retail value $8.00.  Small, soft, grain-free training treats with ok ingredients.  My dogs tend to love any soft treat, particularly if they are slightly stinky.  These fit the bill, and I am sure my dogs will enjoy them.

The Goods

Cocotherapy Coconut Chips.  Approximate retail value $13.99.  These are simply dehydrated organic coconut.  I'm a huge fan of coconut, both for it's taste and health benefits, and my dogs are as well.  Coconut has fiber, and medium chain fatty acids which cross the blood-brain barrier.  I am excited about these, and cannot wait to offer them to my dogs, who already enjoy some coconut oil on occasion.  I'm very tempted to try some of these myself...

Hawaiian Bandana.  Approximate retain value $5.99.  This large bandana is cute, fun, and festive.  Surprisingly, these colors look great on my girl!  Her blond coat makes it difficult at times to find colors that pop on her, especially colors that are traditionally considered girly.  I love it.

Tiki Dog Luau Ahi Tuna Canned Food.  Approximate retail value $2.99.  I initially thought this was cat food, based on the small can size, and was excited.  My dogs have never had Tiki food, but the kitties have, and love it.  High quality, healthy canned food.  I will actually give this to the kitties, and they are sure to enjoy it. 

(I am aware it is dog food, and does not contain supplemental taurine.  My cats get plenty of taurine in their diet.)

Ultra Chewy Tropical Bone.  Approximate retail value $3.99.  It's a chewy dog treat.  The ingredients are not stellar, but I sometimes enjoy a little junk food, as do my dogs.  I am sure Neeko will love this.

Aloha Tiki Plush Toy.  Approximate retail value $9.99.  Adorable soft toy with a rope and a squeaker.  This is really cute, and fits perfectly with this month's theme.  I really like it, but I know how rough my dogs are on plush toys, so I will gift this to a friend, or donate it to my favorite shelter for them to send home with a dog that is adopted.

As usual, I am happy with our Pet Gift Box.  It really is like Christmas, opening the box, not knowing what you are going to get.  Who doesn't love good surprises?

August 2015 BarkBox Review

This month's theme is "Block Pawty."

The Goods

Healthy Dogma Bacon Barkers. Approximate retail value $4.75.  Small biscuit type treats.  Relatively simple ingredients, and corn, wheat, soy and yeast-free.  I know for a fact that Bruce will love these!

SodaPup Toy.  Approximate retail value $12.99.  KONG like toy made in the USA of natural rubber.  Medium size opening on bottom, small opening on top.  Cute, and who cannot use another treat dispensing toy?

Bocce's Bakery Chicken Biscuits.  Approximate retail value $10.30.  Four(!!) ingredients in these treats!  We have received products from this company in the past, and they have always gone over well.  I am sure these will be no exception.

Butcher's Block Steer Stick.  Approximate retail value $3.00.  I am not quite sure this was a "true" bully stick.  It was not the normal shape, and did not last nearly as long as a bully stick typically does.  Faolan certainly enjoyed it, though.  I am always happy with dehydrated chews.

Melon Collie Watermelon Toy.  Approximate retail value $11.00.  Cute toy that fits in with the summertime theme.  As with nearly every other plush/stuffed toy, this is not durable enough for my dogs, as Neeko has already demonstrated.  She carefully dissected it, and removed the largest squeaker I have seen from within it.  But she enjoyed doing so.  This makes me think of Smashing Pumpkins.  I really hope someone gets that reference.

I am pleased with this month's BarkBox.  One thing I have noticed is that most all the treats recently have been biscuits, when my particular dogs seem to prefer moist or dehydrated meat treats.  Just a commentary, not a complaint.

Lifeguard Beach Toy.  Unknown retail value.  Cute toy that can be used in a variety of ways.  It floats and squeaks, and could easily be used as a tug toy.  While I have not tried it out, I feel it could be tossed like a flying disk as well.

Fou-Stick Protect.  Approximate retail value $12.60.  We have received this product in the past, and I was pleased.  It looks like a giant tube of chapstick.  Intended for use on paws, nose, and skin, to protect and soothe.  Contains simple, natural ingredients-beeswax, coconut oil, mango seed butter, castor seed oil, apricot kernel oil.  I would use this product on my body, and am happy to have received.

Puppy Scoops Maple Bacon Ice Cream.  Approximate retail value $6.99.  I. Love. This.  I have already made it up, and so do the dogs.  Simply add water, mix, and freeze.  Made with lactose-free whole milk as not to cause GI upset.  I may have tasted it, and it may have been tasty...

Foufit Popsicle Dog Toy.  Unknown retail value.  Made by the same company as the Fou Stick.  Cute, plush toy that looks a creamsicle.  Yum.  While very cute, it is not durable enough for my particular dogs.  This will be gifted or donated.

Puppy Chillerz Gelatin Dog Treats.  Approximate retail value $4.99.  I am very excited about this.  Jello treats for dogs, made with limited ingredients.  Simply add hot water and refrigerate.  Gelatin is good for both humans and dogs, for joint, hair, and skin health.  I cannot wait to make these.  

I am loving this month's Pet Gift Box!  Particularly the "treats" that came in it.  This is the main thing I love about Pet Gift Box, being introduced to new products.
